Portraits of Powerful Practice

The Thinking Historically: Portraits of Powerful Practices project seeks to better understand how teacher
educators across Canada prepare future teachers to teach and learn about the past. The project specifically
aims to capture the innovative projects and pedagogical approaches teacher educators use with their pre-
service teachers. Learn more about the Portraits of Powerful Practices.

20 post-secondary instructors were invited to collaborate with research assistants on the project, leading
to the co-creation of narratives showcasing the diverse ways instructors across Canada conceptualize
history education and other related domains. Use the map below to explore the co-created narratives and
learn more about teacher educators’ understanding of their role in preparing future teachers to engage the
past, and how this shapes their work with pre-service teachers.
